Shop Update

Hi everyone!

So a lot has happened in the past few weeks. I recently moved out of the city, and I'm drawing new pieces again after a small hiatus. I'm very excited to produce more artwork for you all!

Anyway, since I've moved back to a small town, my printing options have been limited. I can no longer offer the cheap laser prints as there is no viable printer who I trust in my area. However! I do have access to a high-quality printer, so I will now be offering even nicer prints on premium photo paper and at custom sizes!

I'm still working out the details, but please keep an eye out on my site for the new listings! www.etsy.com/shop/mdugarchomp

Thanks again for all your support,

M. Dugarchomp

Wow! When I posted my latest Gen 1 starter Pokemon paintings on Reddit, I never expected them to be so popular. Thank you to András Neltz of Kotaku for featuring my post, and thank you to everyone who has followed my tumblr, watched me on dA, upvoted on Reddit, and bought prints on Etsy! I promise, I will continue to make the best Pokemon art I can for all of you.

After a small burst of popularity on Reddit, I decided to set up a shop on Zazzle.com with prints and t-shirts of my work.  Less than 24 hours later I got a series of emails from Zazzle saying my work was taken down from the shop due to copyright infringement. Upon searching Zazzle for other Pokemon-themed products, it appears they have a particularly strict policy on fanwork, seeing as almost no fanmade Pokemon products could be found.

Similarly, it appears DeviantArt’s printmaking site does not allow deviations submitted in the “Fan Art” category to be eligible for prints.

I understand by selling my work I am risking copyright infringement of both Nintendo and Charley Harper himself. However, if the demand is high enough, I do want to sell my work to others. I’m well aware that the practice of selling fanmade work of copyrighted franchises, etc., is very common on sites like Etsy.

So, what should I do now? Try my luck with another site? Or have products printed myself and sell them on sites like Etsy, with more lax policy on fanwork? Or wait until Anime Boston to sell physical copies in the art auction? Any artists out there, I need your suggestions!
